Defence
Being prepared for disaster is an essential role of government. A war is exactly that, a comprehensive man-made disaster.
A well funded Australian Defence Force is essential to Australia’s national security.
The goal of defence spending being maintained at 2% of GDP is a reasonable one. A war is the worst possible outcome. As we have seen in Ukraine, if a country believes that it can bend another to its will, it may try to do so. The goal of the ADF is to protect Australia’s interests and make us too costly to invade.
In an ideal world we wouldn't need the ADF.
But in the world we live in, they keep us safe, preserve our freedom and our way of life.
